Tereena Hannan MSW, RSW
Tereena Hannan is a registered social worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and is a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). She holds a Master of Social Work (2011) from the University of Windsor, a Bachelor of Social Work (2006) from Laurentian University, as well as Level 3 Training from the Gottman Institue.
Tereena has worked in the healthcare system for the last 17 years and has had the opportunity of providing counselling and psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families experiencing a wide variety of issues. She has extensive experience developing and facilitating various treatment groups for clients and families struggling with anxiety, depression, and stress management. Tereena has also worked extensively with the geriatric population surrounding aging issues and caregiver stress. Her work experience provides her with a diverse range of therapeutic skills that inform her private practice.
Tereena uses a strengths-based, client-centered approach with a combination of evidence based therapeutic modalities. She has completed training programs with the Beck Institute of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy in the areas of anxiety and depression. She has also completed training in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFT), Brief Solution Focused Therapy (BSFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness. Additionally, she has completed L1 and L2 Gottman Method for Couples Therapy.
Tereena has had a genuine lifelong passion for supporting individuals who are struggling as a result of a mental health issue, life situation or relationship. She sees therapy as a deeply collaborative process grounded in mutual respect, empathy, and non-judgmental listening. Tereena strives to create a warm and comfortable space in which clients feel safe to explore and process the personal issues and feelings they are experiencing. She believes that everyone has the capacity to change and works alongside her clients to assist them in identifying their own strengths to help overcome challenging obstacles. During the therapeutic process, Tereena aims to help clients identify goals and develop specific coping skills that will assist them in achieving long lasting positive change, personal growth and healing.
